Abstract
Striking changes have taken place in the concept and structure of the society with the emergence of information society. Information explosion on the one hand and technological communication advances and also appearance of modern media on the other hand has posed the news activists with new challenges in the field of accessing , understanding and using information. Therefore, news planners need special ability beyond the basic news literacy to access to information in order to compete and survive in the information society which is referred to as “ information literacy “. One of the most important strategies to promote information literacy of the news planners is to be aware of their literacy status. The present study has outlined the status of information literacy in the mentioned society emphasizing its seven constituents and influential factors in improving this skill. This study is a deep quantitative and descriptive analysis based on survey method. The findings of this study prove that the news editors and reporters are in a satisfactory position as far as ethical and legal considerations are concerned. Their information literacy is generally average which is not desirable. This study has also shown that there is a key direct relationship between taking English and computer training courses and/or international computer driving licenses (ICDL) and information literacy level.
