Abstract
This research aims to investigate the deficiencies in television productions about the lives of religious figures. This research looks for the reasons for the failure of these television productions. The research investigates the most important challenges of the pre-production stage of these works by using the in-depth interview method with ten experts and documentary makers in this field. These five steps are topic finding, research, script, audience determination, and selection of the production team.

The findings show that the research in these documentaries was done carelessly and the dramatic aspects of the subject's life were not carefully examined. This is why we do not see any innovation and diversity in the form of these documentaries. As a result, to create suitable structures to represent the life and career of religious scholars on television, it is necessary to carry out the five steps mentioned carefully.
