Representation of middle-class life in Iranian cinema (The typology of “A separation”)

Abstract
The aim of this article is to know how the middle-class have been represented in the film called “A Separation”. The article is evaluated in cultural studies approach with emphasis on representation. The methodology of this research is typology  and its theoretical framework is formed by representation theory with emphasis on Stewart Hall’s viewpoints and analysis of binary oppositions.
The results represented the affirmation to daily life of Iranian middle class in the mentioned film. It is also represented in the film being pessimistic to situations and facing with contradiction and duality. The representation of Iranian middle class is done by polarization between the lower/upper class. Thanks to this contrast and rely on cultural and religious capital, the contexture is well indicated. From the thematic perspective, lies, betrayal, secrecy,prejudice and judgement are all dramatized through the narrative of  “ A Separation”.
